Training

Do you want to develop specific competencies, for example presenting yourself convincingly during a job interview, or carrying out your work within the allotted time? Then choose one of the training courses put together by ProActief.

Coaching

ProActief offers various coaching and guidance programmes to provide insight into your next career step and/or support in finding a new position.

Tests

In addition to self knowledge and feedback from others, it can sometimes be useful to take a test to evaluate your competences and skills. ProActief has three tests for assessing skills and competences.

For whom?

For UvA staff and employees from other organisations who want to remain optimally employable or who are not sure if they are in the right position for them. For UvA staff this service is included in their CAO and can be used once every two years and working for at least 1 year at the UvA.

Coaching

From passive to active role.

For whom?

Employees who could use new tools and insights to help them in their work.

What?

Coaching aimed at revealing and cultivating talents. This programme is based on a coaching plan, drawn up by the employee and the coach. The requirements of the department can be incorporated in the coaching plan.

Outplacement

Are you leaving your current employer, for whatever reason?

For whom?

Employees looking for a position outside their present organisation.

What?

  • If required: coming to terms with unpleasant work experiences.
  • Inventory of wishes, motivations, interests, qualities, hindrances and gaps in education/training; optional career choice test.
  • Training for job application skills: CV, application letters, job interviews.
  • Approaching the labour market: networking and job applications.

Redeployment

Your position is disappearing, but there are still opportunities.

For whom?

For employees faced with imminent job loss, for example through reorganisation, redundancy or the abolition of the position.

Employees who want to explore their prospects and perspectives in the labour market.

Launch your Career

The training is best suited when you are about to start your final year of employment.

Extremely helpful to broaden your horizon and realize the grand (and great) world outside academia; helps to realize what your strengths are (instead of always focusing on the criticism); provided much insight in how your PhD degree offers a valuable transferable skills toolkit! The course included great exercises to realize how easily networking can be done!

Who?

The Career Orientation Course is for PhD candidates and Postdocs who are about to start their final year of employment*. You can also participate if you are a PhD student or postdoc at another university or research institute. Each group consists of a maximum of 12 people, creating a safe environment where personal experiences and ideas can be shared.

Employees who want to be genuine and to confidently present who they are, what they are good at and what they have to offer to potential future employers.

For anyone who wants to be able to write a powerful motivation letter.

Competencies: what am I good at?

How do you convince the other person of your strengths, competencies and/or skills?

Preparation

End of Employment

What are your rights and duties while receiving unemployment benefit? How can ProActief assist you in your return to the labour market?

Self-insight helps you find direction for your (future) work.

Who?

Beforehand

Did you know that your CV is read in 15 seconds? That's how long you have to convince the reader that you are the ideal candidate for the vacancy in question. How can you ensure that the contents and layout of your CV are so convincing that it stands out from the rest?

  • Networking via LinkedIn.

Job Interview Skills

About first impressions, 'selling' your good points while remaining true to yourself.

Beforehand

During individual sessions with the ProActief adviser you have discussed who you are, what you can do and what you want in your career. You have also polished up your CV and job application letter. Now you just need to focus on your job interview skills.

Would you like to gain in-depth insight into your personality type and that of others?

Who?

For UvA staff and staff of other organisations who would like to know more about their personality type and how to make it work for them.

The DISC test

Would you like a better understanding of your own behavioural preferences and those of others?

Who?

For UvA staff and staff of other organisations, managers and teams who want to learn to assess people's behavioural preferences.  This understanding will enable you to meet people's personal needs better, to gain a better appreciation of the differences in others and to build mutual trust.
