What you can expect
The Career Check-in helps you define focus and direction in your career. You not only discover what fits you best, but also work on clear next steps.
After completing the process, you will have:
- a clear view of your strengths, values and areas for development,
- a concrete action plan for your next career step,
- and greater ownership and enjoyment in your work.
Throughout the process, you receive a personal report and professional guidance to translate your insights into practical action.
Who is it for
For anyone who wants to keep developing in their work, or who is questioning whether their current role still fits.
This one-to-one coaching process is open to all levels of UvA staff.
This career check-in is part of the UvA’s collective labour agreement. You can make use of it free of charge once every two years, provided you have been employed by the UvA for at least one year.
If you work at another knowledge institution, feel free to contact us and discuss the options with your manager.

How?
The programme includes:
- Career test – an online, scientifically validated questionnaire (20–30 minutes) mapping your drivers, talents and sources of energy.
- Three coaching sessions – three one-to-one sessions (60 minutes each) with a career coach, focusing on insight, direction and implementation.
- Assignments between sessions – you apply your new insights directly in your work or daily life.
- Outcome – a personal career plan that gives structure and direction to your next step.
All study materials are included, and the homework assignment takes an average of 2 to 4 hours to complete.
